outside national borders, but still nearby (about 80km), the cies islands form an archipelagos located at the entrance of the drowned river valley of vigo, in galicia.

In 1980 they were declared national park, and are part of the atlantic islands national maritime and terrestrial park, created in 2002. in 2007, the british newspaper the guardian chose the beach of rodas, at the island of monteagudo, as the “most beautiful beach of the world”.
