braga’s sanctuary of bom jesus is a religious and touristic site with an unquestionable beauty. it has a large church, a stairway where the via crucis of bom jesus passes, a forest (the park of bom jesus), and a centennial hydraulic elevator.
the sanctuary of bom jesus has been an inspiration to many other buildings throughout the world, particularly in brazil. its construction began june the 1st in 1784, and was completed in 1811. it is the first neoclassical construction in Portugal. the frontage is flanked by two towers and completed with a triangular gable.
